🌈 Celebrating Pride Month at Redbridge School, Respecting the LGBTQ community🌈

Aspiration • Excellence • Opportunity • Respect

June marks Pride Month, and at Redbridge School, we’re proud to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community through a range of inclusive and inspiring activities. This month is a vital opportunity to raise awareness, promote acceptance, and champion equality—values that align closely with our school ethos.

📚 Curriculum Spotlight: iKnow5 Role Models

Staff are encouraged to use the iKnow5 presentation shared earlier this term, which highlights influential LGBTQ+ role models linked to each curriculum subject. These figures—many of whom were suggested by departments during our earlier audit—help broaden students’ awareness and representation across all areas of study.
✨ Shine Tasks: Students can research their subject’s role model as a homework assignment and share their findings for rewards.

👥 Tutor Time Activities

A presentation of weekly Pride-themed activities is available for all tutor groups. These sessions are designed to encourage meaningful discussions and provide students with a safe space to explore identity, respect, and inclusion.
✨ Shine Task options are included, and tutors are invited to share standout moments or thoughtful reflections.

📖 Reading Challenge & Library Lessons

In KS3 library lessons, Year 7 and 8 students are invited to take part in a Chance to Shine Reading Challenge. Each session features a chapter from a Pride Month book, followed by a creative “What happens next?” writing task.
Tutors are also encouraged to display the Reading Challenge poster in classrooms to spark student interest.

✍️ Creative Writing Workshop – 17 June

A special writing workshop will take place for a select group of students in Years 7–10. This workshop aims to amplify student voices through storytelling and creative expression, inspired by LGBTQ+ narratives.

🎤 Assemblies

Heads of Year will be delivering Pride-themed assemblies to Years 7–10 throughout the month. These assemblies aim to foster respect, challenge prejudice, and educate on the importance of allyship.

🌟 Rewards & Recognition

All students participating in Chance to Shine activities will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the month. Please encourage students to get involved, share their work, and celebrate learning and creativity!

❤️ A Reminder on Care and Inclusion

This is a vulnerable time for many in the LGBTQ+ community, especially with shifting political conversations and visibility. Staff are reminded to be vigilant and proactive in addressing misconceptions, prejudice, or safeguarding concerns. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support or guidance.

Together, let’s make Pride Month at Redbridge School a celebration of diversity, respect, and unity. 🌈
