Careers at Redbridge Community School must align to the statutory guidance from the Department for Education in order to develop ‘… a world class careers system that will help young people and adults choose the career that is right for them’ (DfE 2018). To assist all education establishments, the Government’s strategy has been structured around eight ‘Gatsby Benchmarks’:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learners to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

These ‘benchmarks’ form the starting point and focus for Redbridge School’s careers programme in the pursuit of an excellent careers programme. As part of Benchmark 7, ‘Encounters with Further and Higher Education’, the school will continue to action the Baker Clause and ensure students are kept informed of approved technical educational qualifications or apprenticeships.
